Nominations for the LPN's Annual Community Service Awards are now open! These awards are presented annually to individuals providing meaningful service to the Latino community in the Baltimore metropolitan area. Awards are presented at a celebration during Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15).

The LPN is proud to announce that Giuliana Valencia-Banks is our newest Board member. Many of you know Giuliana for her exceptional work with the Esperanza Center. Others may know her from the Latino Racial Justice Circle, Baltimore Women United, or the Maryland Immigrant Rights Coalition. What we know is that she is a passionate advocate for the Latino and immigrant communities and that she will bring all of her experience, education, empathy, and energy to the LPN Board. We are excited to welcome our friend and long-time LPN member to the Board!

Are you interested in sharing the good things your organization is doing in the Latino community? Then we are looking for you! We are currently booking presenters for our 2021 monthly resource meetings. We typically do two to three presentations per month. While we are still meeting virtually due to COVID-19, we can accommodate three presentations per month.

If you are interested in presenting, please complete this form by providing the name of your organization, your contact information, and two possible months you could present. Please note: preference is given to organizations and individuals who are LPN members.

Dear Members and Friends of the LPN,

It’s hard to believe that 2020 is coming to an end. This has been a year of many unprecedented events. As a community, we were tested medically, politically, and socially, and together united, we pushed through the medical challenges of COVID-19, challenged the status quo of our political leaders, and stood shoulder to shoulder (while socially distanced, of course!) to voice our opposition to social injustice, not only in our community but throughout the whole country.

Being part of the Latino Providers Network, I was lucky not only to work with an amazing Board, but I was also privy to the unity this community was able to achieve in the face of the pandemic and social injustice. Our board, LPN members, and volunteers stepped up to the challenge and together helped a community in need: 

• Volunteers worked tirelessly to provide food and resources within their communities. Many LPN members collaborated with food banks to make food accessible to those that could not otherwise get to food distribution centers. 
• COVID-19 testing sites were mobilized in underserved communities to provide much needed testing, and
• Many dusted off their sewing machines and provided the community with handmade face masks, which we know are necessary to fight the spread of COVID-19.

In 2020, the gift of giving was alive and well in communities throughout Maryland, and the most valuable gifts shared were kindness, caring, and volunteerism. We were touched and amazed by the generosity shown by so many in a time where the country was divided. This year has shown us what we can accomplish when we work together!  The Latino Providers Network will continue to be the platform where the community can gather and to pursue our mission to maximize resources through advocacy, education, and networking.

On behalf of our Board of Directors, we send holiday cheers to our LPN members, volunteers, sponsors and the Latino community in Maryland and beyond.

Each year, on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, the world celebrates Giving Tuesday in which people come together to share their time, resources, money, and voices to support their communities and good causes. 2020 has been a difficult year for so many people due to the Coronavirus pandemic and its long-lasting affects. Nominations for the LPN's Annual Community Service Awards are now open!  These awards are presented annually to individuals providing meaningful service to the Latino community in the Baltimore metropolitan area. Nominations are solicited from both the membership organizations and the Board of the LPN. Awards are presented at the LPN’s Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration on the fourth Monday in September.

This year, we're introducing a new nomination category to recognize individuals or organizations who were on the forefront of responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Esperanza Center will offer a 5-week session of online ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes for adults May 26 – June 25. Please see the blurbs below and poster attached, in Spanish & English. Thank you for sharing this information with anyone who may be interested.

On Sunday, September 29, LPN member Nuestras Raices, Inc. is presenting a Parade of Latino Nations through Highlandtown. This is the first year for this event, and it's an exciting opportunity for Latinos to celebrate their culture and history during Hispanic Heritage Month!

The LPN is a sponsor for this event, and as part of our sponsorship, 10 LPN members who are non-profits can participate in the parade and/or accompanying festival for FREE! These spots are available on a first come, first serve basis.

For the festival, a table will be provided, but you must supply your own tent.

Once the 10 spots are filled, the LPN will confirm your organization's participation as part of the LPN sponsorship. Then you will be asked to submit a participant application to Nuestras Raices for their records.

If you are not one of the first 10 LPN members to respond, you can still participate in the event by completing the participant application and sending it directly to Nuestras Raices.
